CARICOOS FVCOM-2D Structured Grid, Best Aggregated |
Data from the Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model (FVCOM) has been interpolated into a structured grid mesh for visualization using the ERDDAP tool. For optimal resolution, it is recommended to utilize the original unstructured mesh data available through the THREDDS data server at our THREDDS (http://52.55.122.42/thredds/catalog/content/FVCOM/catalog.html).

The CARICOOS Weather Research Forecast (Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF)) model consists of a high horizontal resolution of 1 km is based on the WRF Nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model (NMM) core. WRF-NMM was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). The model is run daily for cycle 00Z to produce a forecast length of 36 hours, but this only include the fisrt 24 hours which are consider as the Hindcast. Boundary and initials conditions are provided by the Global Forecast System (GFS) and Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from NASA Short-term Prediction Research and Transition Center (SPoRT).

RTOFS Forecast, 2D, 3-Hourly Prognostic, Global, Latest Model Run, near Real-time |
RTOFS Forecast, 2D, 3-Hourly Prognostic, Global, Latest Model Run, today - today+8days, Lon+/-180. This is a subset of the NCEP RTOFS Region 1 (US East) forecast for purposes of archiving, use by our operational products, and distribution to the general and scientific community. The global operational Real-Time Ocean Forecast System (Global RTOFS) at the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction is based on an eddy resolving 1/12? global HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) (HYbrid Coordinates Ocean Model) and is part of a larger national backbone capability of ocean modeling at the National Weather Service in a strong partnership with the US Navy.

SWAN model simulation (1 km) for Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, 2012-present |
Model output from the CARICOOS Nearshore Wave Model, a state of the art wave forecast system based on the Simulating Waves Nearshore (Simulating WAves Nearshore model (SWAN)) spectral wave model. Model is run twice daily on CARICOOS HPC facilites. Only the regional PR-USVI grid is included in this product, however, high-resolution subgrid output is available upon request. Starting with Version 2 in 2012 the model output collection has progressed through several model versions. The latest version, SWAN Version 8, came online on November 30, 2018. All model versions share the same spatial grid and a standard set of output variables.
